"I dream my painting and I paint my dream." Vincent Van Gogh
Paint is a medium that anyone can have fun with, all walks of life, kids of all ages to adults young and old. One of the most popular types of paint in the art supplies market to date is acrylic paint. It is easy to store, apply to canvas, paper or a painting surface and is loved most of all for its quick drying time and easy wash up with water, not to mention most acrylic paints these days are non-toxic too which is a big plus. When on the search for the right acrylic paint for your artistic endeavour there are a lot of brands to choose from in the current art supplies market. Hopefully in a nutshell we can give you an insight with no sales pitch. With over a decade of experience in the art supplies market and two with actually using acrylic waterbased paint ourselves in the studios there is a lot to be said about this wondrous medium.
If you are looking for acrylic paint for kids in a young learning environment for example a kindergarten the most popular brand is Liquicryl or Splash classroom acrylic which is available in 125ml, 500ml and two and five litre bottles. This acrylic paint is made in Australia, non-toxic, washable and is recommended for the age of 3 and up. Both of these ranges are very economical; it is thin in consistency but does give decent coverage and the colours do remain fairly bright. It is designed for kids to experiment with and is also great for kids playing with sponges, texture wands, rollers and is perfect for stubby paint brushes. The colours on the stubby paintbrush handles are colour coded to the paint which makes it easy for kids to place the brush into the right paint pot which makes for less muddying of colours.
If you are looking for an acrylic paint that is a step up from Splash we have Chromacryl, Chromacryl is one of our favorites. We use it in our studios all the time, it is our go to paint. It is very economical, the consistency of the paint is creamy and the colour range is fairly broad, especially in the 250ml pots. The primary colours available in the 75ml tubes, 250ml pots and one and two litre bottles are available in both cool and warm tones which makes colour mixing easy. Chromacryl is also made in Australia and is non toxic. It is owned by an Australian family which we love, their speciality is manufacturing paint. A2 student paint, Jo Sonja's, Atelier Interactive and Atelier Free Flow artists paints all belong under the Chroma umbrella. Atelier Interactive is an acrylic paint that is fairly unique it can dry on the painting surface and then be re-activated to be re-worked when wet with water or an Atelier medium. Atelier Free Flow is great for flowing work and resin pieces.
Our next go to paint is Matisse both in the Flow and Structure range. These paints are artist quality, and the main differences between the two are their consistencies. Matisse Flow is like pouring cream from a bottle and Matisse Structure is like scooping whipped cream from a bowl, it has an impasto medium in its ingredients which makes it thick, giving great coverage and perfect for adding texture to your art work. Both are artist quality paints and come in the same colour range. There are some gorgeous and unique colours in the Matisse Derivan range like Australian Sap Green and Australian Yellow Green.
If you love to experiment and keeping in mind all acrylic paints intermix with each other, Jacquard Lunmiere and Neopaque acrylics are a super smooth flowing acrylic that have a huge range of iridescent and metallic colours. These colours are vibrant and show up even on dark backgrounds.
If you are after cheap acrylic water based paint tubes just to do a quick craft job or school project we have them too in the Artvalli and Reno range. As a comprehensive craft store in Geelong and Melbourne we cater to every arty and crafty project; other paint brands we love and carry are the Liquitex Heavy Body and Sennelier Abstract acrylics. Sennelier Abstract acrylics are great for any type of acrylic artwork including street art, the range is great value and it has one of the best fluorescent acrylic paint colours I have seen apart from the Chromacryl range.
As a team of artists and creators we love to hear people's creative journeys, we pride ourselves on not only being up to date with the best art supplies shop online and in store but also in the know about some of Australia's most current and successful artists. With painting being a popular subject, you can learn not only how to use a particular kind of paint (hello acrylic paint!) but also how to manipulate it into a style or subject matter in one of our art classes. Whether you want to paint acrylic as a beginner, intermediate, advanced painter, into abstract or traditional styles we love to work with all along their creative paths. To make this even easier we have designed an artist VIP membership that will give you unbeatable prices on not only when you buy acrylic paint but with all your art supplies online and in store, keep you up to date with art classes and workshops and in the know about anything art related.
